Waste disposal for households

Ekokymppi, the joint municipal waste management authority of Kainuu, provides households with waste disposal services in nine municipalities: Hyrynsalmi, Kajaani, Kuhmo, Paltamo, Puolanka, Ristijärvi, Sotkamo, Suomussalmi and Vaala. It receives and handles household waste and transports biowaste and packaging waste. Ekokymppi also acts as the waste management authority in its area.

Sorting to be done by households

Household waste needs to be sorted into the following types: biowaste, plastic packages, carton packages, glass packages, metal packages, wastepaper and mixed waste. Additionally, pharmaceutical waste, empty batteries, discarded textiles, discarded electrical appliances and hazardous waste need to be taken to their specific collection points.
